Gaza Strip
Israeli occupation forces continued attacks across the Gaza Strip on 12–13 June 2026, killing and wounding Palestinians despite the ceasefire that took effect on 10 October 2025. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, the number of Palestinians killed since the ceasefire began has reached 982, with 3,111 wounded and 783 bodies recovered from previously inaccessible areas. Palestine Chronicle; WAFA
In the latest attacks, Israeli warplanes bombed a house near Al-Maghrabi Junction in Gaza City, killing one Palestinian and injuring several others. A separate drone strike killed a 40-year-old man west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. A Palestinian woman was seriously wounded by Israeli gunfire in the Al-Atatra area of northern Gaza, and two more Palestinians sustained injuries in a drone explosion in the Zaytoun neighbourhood of Gaza City. Israeli tanks and artillery conducted sustained shelling in the Al-Tuffah neighbourhood east of Gaza City, while Israeli forces carried out a large demolition operation east of Khan Yunis. Palestine Chronicle
Since the start of Israel's war on Gaza in October 2023, Palestinian health authorities report approximately 72,992 Palestinians have been killed and 173,219 wounded. Palestinian and international officials continue to accuse Israel of systematically violating the ceasefire through airstrikes, artillery attacks, shootings and military incursions. Humanitarian organisations warn that Gaza's civilian population remains highly vulnerable, with strict Israeli restrictions on humanitarian access persisting. WAFA
Separately, 62 US lawmakers wrote to the Biden administration urging the evacuation of cancer patients from Gaza, stating that "cancer should not be a death sentence." Palestinian paediatrician Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, detained without charge for over 500 days, appeared by video link at an Israeli Supreme Court hearing; his family reported visible signs of torture. West Bank
A new analysis by Oxfam International, drawing on UN OCHA data, found that more Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupation forces and illegal settlers across the occupied West Bank in the three years 2023–2025 than in the preceding 17 years combined. Oxfam reported that 1,244 Palestinians, including 268 children, were killed between 2023 and the end of 2025, compared to 1,036 killed between 2006 and 2022. Children accounted for 22 percent of all fatalities over the 20-year period examined. Palestine Chronicle / Oxfam International
Oxfam also reported that nearly 46,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced in the West Bank over the last three years, more than triple the number displaced during the previous 14 years combined. The organisation documented 925 obstacles that permanently or intermittently restrict the movement of over 3 million Palestinians across the West Bank including East Jerusalem — 43 percent more than the annual average of 647 movement obstacles in the preceding 20 years. Oxfam International
On 12 June, Israeli forces attacked visitors at Solomon's Pools tourist site near Bethlehem, and several Palestinians suffocated in an Israeli army raid near Nablus. Israeli colonists attacked farmers near Nablus and erected a tent on Palestinian-owned land north of Ramallah. The Soufan Center noted that settler violence against Palestinian communities has intensified since the start of the Iran war. WAFA; Soufan Center
Iran–US War and Diplomatic Situation
On 12 June 2026, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the United States and Iran have reached a "final, agreed upon text" of a peace deal, with Pakistan working closely with both sides to finalise next steps. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated the agreement has "never been closer" and that both sides were working toward signing an initial memorandum of understanding declaring an end to the war "on all fronts, including Lebanon." A senior US administration official said they were "80–85 percent" confident of signing the agreement within days. AP; CBS News
The emerging deal, brokered primarily by Pakistan with backing from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt and Qatar, reportedly includes: a 60-day extension of the ceasefire; the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz; the phased lifting of sanctions on Iran and release of frozen Iranian assets; and a commitment from Iran to dismantle its nuclear programme, with technical details to be worked out in the 60 days following the initial agreement. Iran's Foreign Minister said Tehran wants to charge ships "for services rendered" when transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a position the US and other nations say violates international law. AP
The US–Iran war launched on 28 February 2026 has rattled the Middle East and virtually shut down oil and natural gas shipments from the Persian Gulf. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since 7 April. US Central Command reported that since 13 April, US forces have redirected 139 compliant commercial ships and disabled 9 non-compliant vessels in the blockade of Iranian ports. Oil prices fell sharply on Friday on optimism about the emerging deal, with West Texas Intermediate closing below $85 per barrel. CBS News
Israel is not a party to the US–Iran negotiations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he and President Trump were in "full agreement" that Iran must not have nuclear weapons. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that Israel could still act independently toward Iran and that Israel would not withdraw from zones it occupies in Lebanon, Syria, Gaza or the northern West Bank. AP
Lebanon
Israel has been fighting the Iranian-allied militia Hezbollah in Lebanon since early March 2026. Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that any peace deal with the US would cover "all fronts, including Lebanon," though Israel has said it does not plan to withdraw from Lebanon. The IDF reported intercepting a suspicious aerial target near the border with Lebanon on 12 June; no casualties were reported. World Vision's Lebanon Response Situation Report No. 12 (covering 19 May–11 June 2026) documented continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation. CBS News; World Vision

Russia–Ukraine Conflict
Ukraine's commander-in-chief General Oleksandr Syrskii reported that Ukraine reclaimed more territory than it lost during May 2026, reversing a Russian trend of monthly net gains. Syrskii stated that the ratio of liberated to lost territories was "almost 100 square kilometres in our favour" for May, and that Ukraine had reclaimed 600 sq km during the first five months of 2026. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) assessed Ukrainian gains higher, estimating Russia lost a net of 91 square miles of Ukrainian territory in the four-week period of 12 May–9 June 2026. Al Jazeera; Russia Matters
Ukraine's "logistical lockdown" strategy has significantly disrupted Russian supply lines. Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that the number of hits on enemy targets at distances over 50 km from the frontline doubled in May compared to April, with Syrskii putting the May total at almost 2,000 strikes. Weeks of attacks in the southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhia reduced Russian military traffic by more than 70 percent along the M-14 motorway. On 8 June, Ukraine struck a bridge over the Chonhar Strait, and on 9 June destroyed approximately 50 Russian fuel and ammunition trucks at Armyansk in Crimea. Al Jazeera
On 12 June — Russia Day — Ukraine launched long-range drone strikes on major oil refining facilities in Tatarstan. Ukrainian short- and medium-range drones hit 180,000 targets in May, 12.7 percent more than in April. Russia launched 9,539 drones, 32 ballistic missiles and 122 cruise missiles in May 2026, of which Ukraine intercepted 8,885 drones, 1 ballistic missile and 91 cruise missiles. Russia Matters; Kyiv Post
President Vladimir Putin acknowledged on 12 June that Ukrainian strikes are inflicting damage on the Russian economy and society, while insisting Russia would recover quickly. "As for the economy: they are certainly causing us damage, but we are recovering quickly," Putin said in comments carried by TASS (Rus). Putin threatened to increase retaliatory strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure to "discourage them from attacking our civilian facilities." He also stated that Russia must improve its air defences. Al Jazeera; TASS (Rus)
Russia's war on Ukraine has now lasted longer than World War I, surpassing 1,568 days as of 11 June 2026. Russia continues to hold approximately 19–20 percent of Ukraine's territory, including Crimea and parts of Donbas seized prior to the full-scale invasion. Russia made a net total gain of approximately 1,355–1,369 square miles of Ukrainian territory over the past year. Putin rejected a call from President Zelenskyy for direct talks on 5 June, though Zelenskyy reported meeting with Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich as Putin's intermediary. The EU agreed to launch formal membership talks with Ukraine the following week. Russia Matters; Reading Eagle / AP
Cross-border attacks continued on 12 June, with two people killed in Russia's Bryansk region and a woman killed in Ukraine's Sumy region. Al Jazeera

Sudan
Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drone strikes killed at least 15 people and wounded more than 10 in the city of el-Obeid in central Sudan's North Kordofan State on the night of 11–12 June 2026. The attacks targeted areas near an army position, a funeral gathering at a cemetery (killing four people), and a gas station. A truck carrying food supplies into the city was also struck, killing its driver. Emergency Lawyers, a local monitoring group, warned the toll was likely to increase as drones continued flying over the city. AP
In a separate incident, an RSF drone strike on a military base in the city of Sinja in Sudan's central Sinnar State killed at least 27 people and wounded 73 others. An aid worker with Mercy Corps said drone attacks have intensified across el-Obeid in recent days, targeting gatherings of people, with schools suspending classes and markets only partially open. RFI English
Sudan's civil war, which began in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, has killed at least 59,000 people, displaced some 13 million, and pushed many parts of the country into famine. More than 30 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. The US State Department condemned a reported SAF drone attack on 9 June on the key Ardamata bridge, which humanitarian partners rely on for access. AP; US State Department
In Washington, the US House Foreign Affairs Committee advanced bipartisan legislation to authorise sanctions on the parties involved in the war, passing in a 34–5 vote. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee simultaneously introduced similar legislation, with both proposals calling for sanctions on the RSF and requiring assessments of foreign government involvement in the conflict, including Russia's Wagner Group. Myanmar
ASEAN Special Envoy and Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro announced on 12 June 2026 her intention to meet with Myanmar's political and ethnic resistance organisations (EROs) — a departure from the narrow, junta-centric engagement that has long characterised ASEAN's approach. The ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) welcomed the announcement as "a potentially meaningful step toward inclusive dialogue" under the Five-Point Consensus, while urging that any engagement be transparent, rights-based, and not used to legitimise the junta's parallel "civilian" transition process. Mizzima (Myanmar opposition)
Chinese President Xi Jinping invited Myanmar junta leader Min Aung Hlaing for a first state visit to China in his capacity as "president," following a widely criticised military-engineered election. The visit is expected to take place the following week. Separately, China detained prominent Myanmar political analyst Min Zin, founder of the think tank ISP Myanmar, on espionage charges. Mizzima (Myanmar opposition); Mizzima (Myanmar opposition)
An American businessman, Adam Castillo — a former head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar and author of a book about living through the 2021 military coup — was detained on his return to Yangon on 12 June. The US State Department said it was aware of reports of the detention. Castillo had previously visited the White House to suggest a US peace-broker role in Myanmar with a view to accessing rare earth minerals. Reuters
Myanmar's junta continued airstrikes to support an offensive in southern Chin State, with resistance sources reporting that junta troops are advancing slowly under continuous air support while facing resistance from a coalition of Chin Defence Force (CDF) units. The country remains in active civil war following the February 2021 coup, with the conflict ranked among the most severe globally. D Media; GeoBit Intelligence
